For February's Monthly Film Series, New York based artist Martha Colburn will present a selection of new and old works as well as an opportunity for questions following the screenings. Born in Pennsylvania in 1971, Colburn works in a variety of media including installation, painting, and printmaking in addition to being a self-taught filmmaker. Using this diverse background of techniques, she has completed over 40 films since 1994 with successive screenings at Sundance, Rotterdam, and New York Film Festivals and was also featured in the Fortnight of New Directors at Cannes Film Festival 2005.

Colburn's work has shown in the 2006 Whitney Biennial, Centre Pompidou, Andy Warhol Museum, Museum of Modern Art (NY), P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, Musee d'Art Moderne et Contemporain de Strasbourg France, Museum of Contemporary Art Lyon France, and Serpentine Gallery, London. Since 2004, she has traveled between Holland and New York and is currently represented by the James Cohan Gallery, NY.

Featured above are stills from the video Triumph of the Wild (2008), one of the artists more recent works and a play on the title of Lina Riefenstahl's Nazi propaganda film Triumph of the Will, is a chronological film beginning with the American Revolution and ending with World War II. An animated short, Triumph of the Wild suggests that our senseless dominance of weapons and destructive violence amounts to impotence in the face of nature.
