21c is partnering with Sarabande Books for a new and continuing 21c Monthly Poetry
Series. On the last Monday of each month, 21c Museum will host an evening of live
music, followed by Sarabande authors reading their work. This month, Leigh Anne
Couch and Young Smith will be featured.
About the Authors
Leigh Anne Couch is a graduate of the UNC-Greensboro MFA program
and a regular staff member of the Sewanee Writers' Conference. She taught literature
and writing for six years and is currently an assistant managing editor at Duke
University Press. Her poems have been published in The Greensboro Review,
Alaska Quarterly Review, Crab Orchard Review, Many Mountains Moving,
Whiskey Island Magazine, Slope, and Painted Bride Quarterly.
After receiving a doctorate in English Literature and Creative Writing from the
University of Houston in 2003, Young Smith currently teaches at
Eastern Kentucky University. The author has received fellowships from the National
Endowment for the Arts, the James A. Michener Foundation, and the Kennedy Arts Council,
as well as a Tennessee Williams Scholarship from the Sewanee Writers Conference.
His work has appeared in Poetry, Beloit Poetry Journal, The Iowa
Review, Crazyhorse, on the Poetry Daily Web site, and in other
publications.
