Elena Dorfman
2008 Pajama Party Artist Donor
Having
lent her photographic work for two solo exhibitions at 21c, Elena Dorfman is currently
working on a video art project partially filmed in Kentucky. Her most recent exhibition
of Fandomania 2006-2007 (pictured above is Scarred Sorrow, second
from left) explored the pop-cultural phenomenon of "cosplay," in which members of
an exploding subculture dress up in costumes of their favorite video game and animated
film characters. Dorfman is interested in how identity is conveyed through portraiture,
a theme also prevalent from her earlier exhibition Still Lovers (Ginger
Brook 3, 2001, above right, and Rebecca 1, 2001, left) that looked
at the relationships men had with their life-size silicone dolls. The artist lives
in New York and Los Angeles and both of her exhibition series are now available
as art books.
Elena Dorfman’s contribution to the 2008 Pajama Party will be the opportunity for
a donor to have their photo portrait taken with or without guests. The Dorfman table
is priced at $7,000.21. Reservations can be made by contacting Christy Bramble at
cbramble@21chotels.com
or by calling 502.582.5000.
