Artist's Statement
The very act of bending permeates all of existence.
Einstein's Equivalence Principle identifies light as a participant in the act of
bending.
Rocks within the earth's crust bend under temperature pressures in order to endure
tectonic stresses. Trees bend towards the sun.
We can notice the necessity of bending when it comes to the rest of the natural
world, and in the same way dancers must bend and fold in relation to one another
to maintain fluidity. Beyond the beauty of their physical bending, their bodies
become metaphors for this metaphysical concept of bending.
This body of work was created in collaboration with musician Ben Sollee for his
album Learning how to Bend.
